. Anthemis-In suitable conditions the 100 or so species of this genus of annuals and perennials from the Mediterranean region and western Asia are prolific in their flowering and this is what prompted the name, from the Greek anthem on. Belonging to the larger daisy family, the flower heads have the tropical daisy shape and are generally white, cream or yellow with distinctive contrasting disc florets. Even when not in flower most species have somewhat aromatic, finely dissected foliage in shades of green or silver grey, which can be used to advantage in the mixed border or rockery.
